A Fond Bjerrewell

Well, that was a shocking Mew announcement, wasn’t it?

There will be some final tour dates for Mew with Jonas still as the lead singer. Those tickets will probably sell super fast, even when the venues are larger than normally. As of now, two shows in Denmark have been announced and the venue in Copenhagen has a capacity of over 15.000 which would make it their biggest solo show ever. Of course at festivals they have played for even larger audiences and some Summer shows will probably be added for 2025. I mean, who wouldn’t want to book them now when it is the last time that the original singer is around?

What this means for Mew in the future? That is hard to tell. Johan and Silas will probably need some songwriters and – of course – a new lead singer. Shoulders was the last recorded Mew song with Jonas and that was years ago. Visuals came out in 2017, but of course COVID-19 was a thing too. Gliding would be recorded for a future album with another singer, but Jonas should be credited as a songwriter there still. As he writes in his statement, he will continue with his creative projects. As we know, he loves animating and scoring movies and in the future he may even direct something longer than music videos.

This website was started in 2006 and our team will keep on writing news, reviews etc. whenever there is time for such. I mean, where else can you reminisce the thirty-year history of Mew? The MewX podcast will also have a new season with special guests coming up, so look forward to that.
